Learn to Play Hockey

BHA is proud to announce that it has teamed up with the Detroit Red Wings in conjunction with the National Hockey League Player’s Association and the National Hockey League to be able to be a participating location for the Learn to Play hockey program.

First-Time Participants

One of the great benefits of this program for first-time participants is that it includes all of the equipment you’ll need to get started, in addition to the on-ice coaching and support. This benefit is only available to first-time participants.

Returning Players

Returning players wishing to get some additional coaching before progressing to one of our House or Travel teams can join us again by registering directly with Birmingham Hockey Association.

About Learn to Play Hockey

Learn to Play’s goal is to inspire youth and welcome more families into the hockey community. The program includes 6 training sessions led by professional instructors as well as all of the equipment necessary to get started, all for one low fixed price! This is one of the best values in hockey, and is a great way to cost-effectively introduce young players to the sport. The official Learn to Play program is restricted to new skaters between the ages of 5 and 9 years old. BHA also offers an expanded Learn to Play program that is open to participants who have completed their initial Learn to Play program but would like to get additional ice time and experience before joining one of our House teams, and for those players who are new to hockey but are outside the age range offered under the official Learn to Play program. The Learn to Play program is generally offered several times a year beginning in the fall and running through early spring.
