Mike Boback
Background Information

2009 Rangers' Head Coach Mike Boback is a dedicated, enthusiastic individual with over 30 years of coaching experience and exceptional leadership skills.  Mike brings his love of hockey and coaching to the Rangers, with a plan to impact and grow individuals looking to better themselves in hockey and in life.

Mike's love for the game of hockey started with his time playing in Sterling Heights.  He spent much of his youth in the Compuware program, and he went on to play college hockey at Providence College from 1988-1992.  Mike was the Hockey East scoring champion in 1992, and he's 4th all-time in scoring at Providence.  He was also a candidate for the prestigious Hobey Baker Award in 1992.

Mike was drafted by the Washington Capitals in 1990, and signed an NHL contract in 1992.  He won the AHL's Calder Cup in 1994 as a member of the Portland PIrates, and was named to the AHL All-Star team that same year.  He finished his playing career in the Swedish Elite League.

Mike's coaching career includes his time as an instructor with the Turcotte Stickhandling School, as well as time with Compuware and Honeybaked AAA youth hockey teams.

In addition to being the head coach of the 2009 Rangers, Mike is also the head of hockey development for the entire Birmingham Hockey Association, as well as being the head coach of the Birmingham Unified (Seaholm and Groves) Varsity Hockey team.

Mike is looking forward to using his playing and coaching experience to build a winning program with the 2009 Rangers!
